Dem189

Dem189 is a French artist born in Lebanon in 1977. Like many teenagers of his generation, he tried his hand at graffiti, which soon became his great passion. Initially imitating the American graffiti artists and their style, like everyone at the time, he progressively felt the need to push the boundaries and break the codes. While he became a master at painting with spray-cans, it is finally through drawing and painting on canvas, that he taught himself, that he truly began to understand and appropriate colours and their creative potential. From then on, he diversified his techniques, combining painting with brushes and rollers with the more traditional spray-cans of street artists.

He draws inspiration both from organic shapes and mechanics, making his designs complex and mesmerising. Because he never shies away from a challenge as regards to materials, Dem189 accepted PINTON’s invitation to join in the creation of rugs, under the art direction of Yves Sabourin, in the purest tradition of the firm that likes nothing more than working with contemporary artists.
